Meet Liberian Grammy-Nominated Songwriter Cyrus DeShield
Cyrus made his breakthrough in 2017, writing and co-producing half of the icon Bell Biv DeVoe’s comeback album, “Three Stripes.”
Cyrus DeShield was born in Rhode Island to Liberian parents. He would spend two months there before spending the majority of his childhood in Liberia. A tumultuous civil war would force him and his family to the Ivory Coast, Ghana and Liberia, eventually settling stateside in Boston, Massachusetts.
In 2011, Cyrus signed a publishing deal with “Universal Music Publishing Group.” In 2014, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia to expand his career opportunities.
The album became a fan favourite, spawning two charting singles “Finally” and “I’m Betta.” Cyrus also collaborated with Hip Hop Soul legend Musiq Soulchild on his album, “Feel The Real” He would co-write the eponymous lead single of the same name, peaking at #11 on Billboard’s Urban Adult Contemporary Chart. The album also debuted at #1 on the Urban AC and earned a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Album.
In 2019, Cyrus made the transition from songwriter to Artist as he prepared for his recently released project, “IN MY RIGHT MIND” which debuted at #5 on iTunes World Charts.” The project dives into the rhythm and the diverse cultures of the places Cyrus grew up. In the artist’s words, “The music I create represents all that life is. Joy, pain, love, dance, and freedom of speech.”
