Mayorkun – Back in Office
Now you would be pardoned to think that Mayorkun was a London based UK Nigerian artist due to the love that stands for him in every room that he walks into. However, let me remind you that Mayorkun is the “Mayor of Lagos” for all the very right reasons, as this is by far not his first rodeo!
Mayorkun’s first single hit our airwaves and was propelled immediately as a banger. The artist himself explains that social media was his primary game plan, and Twitter was that main key.
With that success, we have been pleasured to see and hear the Mayorkun working with undoubtedly some of the most sought after artists of our time, including collaborations with Tion Wayne, Shaybo and Darkoo, but that isn’t it because in this world if you work well, all eyes will be on you.
In the case of the Mayorkun, this saw him signing a deal with Columbia records. After seeing the same being done with Gyakie, we know that the world is undoubtedly the Mayorkun’s oyster. He also has Davido as his big brother and mentor, inspiring the Mayorkun with the mic and the pen.
With Davido managing the ones & two’s inspiring the moves and being the perfect role model for the Mayorkun, O2 Academy Brixton is in the Mayorkun’s sights as he explains that Indigo O2 will never be his residency again when in London as he goes from strength to strength and growth with his fans at the core.
Dropping a little knowledge, the key to staying relevant in the Mayorkun’s own words is ‘if you are off the scene for more than three months, then your done. So what was his “magic formula” to being off the scene for seven months and still being able to make waves on his return, I hear you ask? Simply put, Mayorkun encourages all to stay faithful to who they are first and foremost before jumping in feet first.
Well, with that being said, the conversation continued to flow. We can’t lie, the inspiration that the Mayorkun left us during his album listening event in the UK is mind-blowing, and we also implore EVERYONE to be connected to SOLID people and to remember; If you are the most intelligent person in the room, then you’re in the wrong room! Find your nearest exit and find that room, your solid people who inspire you, who you can get your injection of knowledge from for your path in this life.
We only live once! Right now, we are back in office & the Mayor is in town.
