How to Hear Through The Crisis

It is no secret as we all try to adjust to our “new normal” of life through the global pandemic.

It has hit us all across the globe that no one would have ever thought that a virus such as COVID-19 or simply “Rona” as some put it, would come at a time as now with such force and blatant devastation as it has, to rip us all from our “normal” way of lives even to affect our hearing; but funny enough that is precisely what Rona tried to do.

Rona is a thief!

You may believe that COVID-19 was sent by the government to control us, a plot by society, a plan for the rich to keep the poor poor, a conspiracy theory, or simply believe that Rona is a virus.

Whatever we all believe in secret and in the open, one thing for sure is that COVID-19 has and will continue to change “what we knew,” but it can never take our ears off the drum!

Through this unprecedented time, one thing we have seen is the sound of the drumbeat louder through the veins and hearts of its people.
In the history of Ghana or Nigeria, it was referred to as the TALKING DRUM.

Our town crier, news, alarm system, announcement board, and heart of the people as it will make known the information to be heard.

Today in 2020, as we embark on the last quarter of the year, standing in September 2020, We are reminded that the Talking Drum is still alive; the Talking Drum never died.

The Talking Drum continues to send sound waves across the globe as our people are united with a chord, a three-strand chord to be more specific, wrapped in the sound of love.

You see, it’s simple. As the music churns, creatives create, hips sway, and smiles re-emerge, we are all united under the love of hearing the drum—the drum which allows us to hear as we have never heard before.

The drum which evokes us to speak, the drum which carries our legs to march as one, the drum which embodies the voice of love.

Love united in a sound that cannot be hidden, switched off, or turned down because the drum was formed in the heart of the tree, with the skin of the cow and entwined with the three-strand chord, which is the blood of the people, the gold of our wealth, the vegetation of our land, and the lodestar blackness which is us.

STARS, Kings, and Queens with a purpose.

So never allow the sun to go down on your vision.

Never let the anger to hold on to your heart, but my people rather listen to the drum.

You are Kings and Queens of the star which you stand upon, so listen well and listen hard to the sound of your drum as it beats through the tide, you will emerge, you original ‘Sound of Africa.’
