Sounds of Africa Exhibition 2015
‘Sounds of Africa’ is a new photography exhibition that was created to celebrate the work of African artists who are taking contemporary African Music to the global stage. The exhibition is curated and photographed by Michael Tubi, popularly known as Michael Tubes.
Held at the Menier Gallery in London, the exhibition will showcase images of established and emerging contemporary performers including Angelique Kidjo, Seun Kuti, Salawa Abeni, Hugh Masekela, Fatoumata Diawara and 2face, amongst many others.
‘Sounds Of Africa’ aims to display the best musical contributions Africa has to offer of many various styles. Styles such as Afrobeat, Hi-Life, Fuji, Tcha Echo and Makosa are all displayed in the works of photography, with Tubi hoping to open people up to greater understanding and appreciation for the different art forms.
Michael Tubi is a British born African Hertiage portrait and documentary photojournalist based in London. His artistic medium consists predominantly of photography, while also incorporating videography to express his artistic vision.
Tubi curated ‘Sounds Of Africa’ with the aim of bringing new audiences to experience the variety and richness of contemporary African Music. Tubi explains, “My hope for the exhibition is to promote a unique perspective of African music through popular and progressive African artists that embody the development ofthe continent.”
‘Sounds Of Africa’ will hold a private view on Tuesday 25th August from 6pm to 9pm at Menier Gallery, 51 Southwark Street, London, SE1 1RU.
The Sounds of Africa exhibition would be opened to the public from August 26th to August 28th, 11am to 6pm and on August 30th, 11am to 3pm.
