Emanuel Jal, former war child, performed on 22nd November 2019 at Camden Assembly pub for the London stop of his Fall Euro tour.
Emmanuel allowed us to relive some of his past experiences through his music.
Futhermore, he continues to make efforts to inspire other child soldiers to free themselves from this cycle of violence by bringing awareness with his music.
Some of the songs performed on the night were from his albums Naath The Key, Gua, Ceasefire, WarChild and See Me Mama.
His music was enlightening as it allowed us to see into his past sorrows and his present tribulations.
Emmanuel congratulated other survivors.
He dedicated a few songs to his friend and the amazing woman that saved his life.
The Spoken word piece entitled “Forced to Sin” was dedicated to one of his friends that did not survive.
The spoken word piece detailed how he was tempted to eat the flesh of his friends who had not made it due to his starvation.
Moreover, he created a call as response interaction between himself and the audience as he said, “Forced to Sin”, to which the crowd replied, “Forced to sin to make a living”.
His performance was engaging and empowering.
He brought people up on stage and we all had an amazing time learning new dance steps and enjoying the music.
Lastly, his sister who was also there was as ecstatic as everyone else and we all had a great time listening to his music and watching his performance live.
The music he performed displayed some Afro centric vibes (although his genre stems from hip hop) and had us all out of our seats and dancing.
Overall, it was a great atmosphere and an amazing evening.
