DIAMOND PLATINUMZ ‘First Of All’ EP
This weekend, Tanzania’s superstar, Diamond Platinumz, is set to release his new EP, ‘First Of All’. The Wasafi Classic Baby (WCB) record label owner and top artiste will have several listening parties in the country’s commercial capital, Dar es Salaam. Arguably billed as the most successful East African musician, Diamond will kick off the launch today, Thursday, 10th of March, with an invite-only listening party at the Slipway Terrace.
He will then have a launch party tomorrow, Friday 11th, at Elements Club, Masaki. On Saturday, Diamond will also have another invite-only yacht party off the coast of Dar es Salaam, with three yachts line-up for the event, according to his management.
Diamond is releasing his EP barely a month after his new music video ‘Gidi’ sparked controversy. The video, shot in the US, clearly displays racist American confederate flags with Diamond dancing in a cowboy outfit. The confederate flag is associated with white supremacy and oppression of black people.
While it is said that the artiste did not realise the flag was even there, many critics blamed the management for not noticing the flag in the first place. “When people need favours from me, they call me privately, but they are very fast in going to social media when they see a mistake in my work,” said his manager Sallam Sharaff, who dismissed the issue.
However, proving critics wrong, the video has close to five million views on YouTube, just two weeks after its release.
Other than co-owning the WCB record label, Diamonds also owns Wasafi TV, Wasafi Radio and the newly launched sports betting platform, Wasafi Bet.
