Davido: The Baddest 3D Photo Exhibition

Founder and creative director  Michael Tubes, returns with the second instalment of his infamous “Sounds of Africa” 3D virtual exhibition series.

The Covid-19 crisis might have set the scene for Michael’s exhibition, but he had long toyed with the idea of a 3D virtual exhibition curated and photographed by himself documenting award-winning trailblazer Nigerian-American vocalist/producer Davido born David Adedeji Adeleke.

He is making serious waves in the diaspora both in Africa and abroad, following his colossal breakthrough into the music scene in 2011 with his hit debut single ‘Back When’ featuring Naeto C.

Davido is best known for blending traditional African elements with global mainstream pop for a sound that’s equal parts intriguing and infectious.

He founded the DMW (Davido Music Worldwide) record label in 2016 and has signed artists who are doing well musically, including Peruzzi, Dremo, Mayorkun.

Davido has been a foundational and staple fixture in the rise of Afrobeats music internationally. Having made a name for himself with local and international collaborations such as; Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Popcaan, Meek Mill, Sauti soul, among others, the superstar continues to carve a space for himself in the afrobeats scene.

This solo exhibition focuses on the key elements that reflect Davido’s career, such as fashion, performances, rehearsals, movement and more whilst shining a light on the impact of his achievements, growth, and influence within the diaspora through a series of images taken from the different show between 2013 and 2021 in London, Paris, and Portugal.

The creative process has been something that Michael has worked on for nearly ten years. This solo exhibition is the first of its kind that will showcase new and unseen’ images of Davido with Tubes hoping to open people up to greater understanding and appreciation for the global superstar whilst building anticipation towards his second headline show at the o2 arena on the 6th of March 2022.

Some of Davido’s earlier successes include a few of his earliest songs, ’ Ekuro’, ‘Gobe’, ‘Skelewu, ‘Aye, ‘Fia, ‘If’, ‘Fall’, among others topping musical charts and receiving exceptional awards during each season of release. He has a total of 845 million YouTube views and over 15 musical awards to celebrate today.

He won Best International Act at the 2018 BET Awards, becoming the first African artiste to receive his award on the main stage. Davido was cited as one of the Top 100 most influential Africans by New African magazine in 2019. In November 2020, he released his third studio album, A Better Time, and as of August 2021, Davido has been recognised as the second most followed African on Instagram.

Join us in celebrating the sound of Africa virtually from Friday the 25th of February until Friday the 25th of March at www.soundsofafrica.org.

This exhibition is paying special tribute to Davido’s former official photographer Fortunate Ateumunname Peter popularly known as Fortune, who sadly passed away in October 2021.
