Töme – DREAMS EP

Singer-songwriter Töme’s diverse musical palette continues to shine through with an eclectic iteration of Afro-fusion on her third solo release, Dreams. The five-track EP displays a multi-layered artist who deftly explores her many facets.

As French-Canadian phrases coalesce with Nigerian slang and English lyricism, Töme’s sonic fusions include the folk/Afrobeats hybrid “Nana”, hip-hop and dance-inflected “Fly”, and acoustic pop of “Spiritual Healing”.

Joda Kgosi – SOUR MILK EP

On her debut EP, South African singer-songwriter Joda Kgosi presents a metaphoric tale of a romance well beyond its best-before date. Pulling us in across its seven songs,

Sour Milk intimately maps the varying stages of a relationship on the wane. Imbuing her balmy vocals with profound storytelling and raw emotion, Joda earnestly probes through her experiences of love and loss. “As a whole, I’m reflecting on things that have happened,” she explains.

“I’m welcoming you into my thoughts and inviting you to go through my sorrow with me.” Joda’s sense of freedom is most prominent with immersive soundscapes, rhythmic strums, resonant basslines accompanying a range of emotions. “It felt good to get stuff off my chest finally,” she says.

“This story is about how you’re not everything bad that has ever happened to you. Unfortunately, it’s over—it was fresh, and now it’s sour, but we move.” Here, she talks us through the EP, track by track. One of our favourite songs is Track 3 – HOW DARE YOU.
