Bridging the gap between African Music and Art, renowned photojournalist Michael Tubes presents his latest collection, ‘AfroBeats.’ The photography exhibition opens next week, Thursday, 23 June 2016, at Old Truman Brewery.
He has been documenting the scene around Afrobeats for over the years.
Last year, he set a UK record by being the first exhibitor to showcase a full room of African artistry in his debut exhibition, ‘Sounds of Africa,’ giving a platform to the richness of contemporary music while bringing a new audience to experience the variety in the culture.
He promoted the unique perspective of African music through famous and progressive artists such as Angelique Kidjo, Femi Kuti, Baaba Maal, Hugh Masekela, and many more.
Commenting on the exhibition, Michael Tubes said, “Afrobeats have come a long way.
Today, African artists perform on international stages; they collaborate with international stars and have their shows aired on international channels.
This latest exhibition explores the journey of the music genre and how it became a global phenomenon.
The richness of African music has been embraced and appreciated by different races, cultures, and societies of the world today – This reflected in Afrobeats.”
