BIEN OF SAUTI SOL LAUNCHES NEW EP AS GROUPSET FOR SOLO PROJECTS
Suati Sol’s lead vocalist Bien has launched his first record, ‘Bald Men Anthem’, on Friday, 08 October 2021. The song, featuring Kenya’s jazz maestro Aaron Rimbui, was first released on the group’s official YouTube channel.
The release comes just days after Sauti Sol, who are currently on a UK residency tour, announced that they will be focusing on solo careers until they rerelease their joint album next year.
According to an open letter to their fans, Sauti Sol members said that the current ‘Alone-Together’ tour is a journey in which they are self-actualising by showcasing their strengths and characters as the artists who came together to form Sauti Sol.
According to the letter, ‘Alone-Together’ is a child of the pandemic. “The result of deep reflections that we experienced as individuals and as a group leading us to craft the ultimate expansion of our musical and artistic legacies. Thus, each of us shall enter into our alone phase with a single release by December 2021. This shall closely be followed by releases of full projects whose dates shall be announced in due time,” the letter read in part.
Bien is the first to release a solo project, ‘Bald Men Anthem. However, the rest of the members will also follow suit and release their projects. Fancy Fingers will release ‘Father Studies’, Chimano will release ‘Heavy is the Crown’, while Savara will go for ‘Savage Level’.
During a live Instagram feed from London with Aaron, who is currently in New York, Bien said his new song is not about ‘looking down upon people with hair’. “This is a song about self-love, and we as bald men are just celebrating ourselves,” said Bien.
Sauti Sol had a successful event at the Jazz Café in London last weekend and are expected to perform in Manchester’s Blues Kitchen on Tuesday, 12 October.
