Wizkid makes history again – Made in Lagos SOLD OUT in 12 minutes.

It is with a hefty heart that I come to tell you (if you didn’t already know) that tickets for Wizkid’s Made in Lagos concert at the O2 arena London are SOLD OUT! Now for context, this concert was announced only a month ago, there was barely any promotion apart from a few tweets from Wizkid’s account, and it’s just been announced that he has joined the ranks of artists (the only African) to sell out tickets in under 15 minutes, along with the likes of Beyonce, Rihanna and The Spice Girls.

Wizkid said it sold out in 12 minutes. Still, I was at the front of the queue at 10:08 am, and already tickets were unavailable; whilst I’m very happy for him as we see history in the making again, I, along with thousands of Wizkid fans, are very upset by this development.

Why do you ask? *crack knuckles* let me tell you:-

  • I think it’s a tad unfair that America gets multiple cities, and we only get one, London. That set-up means there will be people from surrounding cities, scratch that, from all over England jockeying for tickets that are capped at 20,000; and I can tell you for the fact that there are more than 20,000 Wizkid fans in London alone, not to talk of other cities.
  • Reselling culture. The reselling culture has ruined everything, it’s bad for fashion, but it’s worse for entertainment. People are consistently buying tickets and then selling them at preposterous rates. It’s extortion, and it needs to be stopped. The thriving black market for concert tickets means that people who really want to be at the concert will have no choice but to pay 3x times the selling price for a standing ticket.

It is impossible to argue that Wizkid is a superstar; he is arguably the biggest star out of Nigeria in over a decade; the recent turn of events has reignited the conversation about who the biggest artist in Africa is. However, biased many people agree that Wizkid continues to prove that he is THE GOAT.

And I would argue that at this point, he shouldn’t be limited to just Nigeria or Africa; Wizkid can hold his own anywhere in the world, and as such, should add another date at the 02 to his tour. If he did, that would be another history made as he will become the first Nigerian artist to sell out the O2 arena single-handedly back to back!

One thing I know for sure is that this concert will be talked about for years to come, and I WILL be there, by hook or by crook. So if you see me suddenly wearing an O2 staff or steward uniform or hiding in the bags of one of the instrumentalists or photographers, please mind your business.

Also, if you love me, now might be a great time to tell me because I might love you back.
