Infectious and instantly catchy, ‘Wicked’ is the first single from Juls forthcoming debut album ’Sounds Of My World’ tentatively set for release in September. The follow-up single to the melodic and reggae-inspired buzz track ‘Chance’ featuring Projexx and Tay Iwar dropped in May.
Underpinning ‘Wicked’ is an effortlessly sophisticated groove destined to get any party started. Featuring warm keyboard chords, lush horn sections and polyrhythmic drum patterns, Juls masterfully creates a vibe perfect for an evening soiree at a beach club or night-time fiesta.
The track sees Juls band together with a cast of the UK’s finest homegrown talent, Sam Wise, Kadiata and Knucks, offering an elite collaboration tailor-made to represent Black Britain’s current musical renaissance. This is the second time Juls has partnered up with Knucks, following ‘No Lie’ with XamVolo & Che Lingo, which featured his 2019 EP ‘Colour’.
The accompanying video was directed by Ray Fiasco, who’s previously helmed videos for Backroad Gee, Shakka, M Huncho, Kojey Radical, Young T & Bugsey and Aitch. Shot late at night in Juls’ stomping ground of East London. Oozing with blazing neon colours from the house party to the dance floor, the visual is an inferno of radiant joy, celebration and euphoria with cameo appearances from BenjiFlow and Ragz Originale.
Juls is one of the UK’s most distinctive and pioneering producers. He has enlisted his talents to several major acts. In 2017, Juls released his debut project, ‘Leap of Faith’. Following this up with ‘Colour’ in 2019 featuring collaborations with Ms Banks, Pa Salieu and Kojey Radical. His 2020 projects ‘Happy Place’ and joint EP with Soulection’s Sango, ‘Fufu & Grits’ garnered Juls his most notable acclaim as an artist in his own right. Earning praise for its seamless and cohesive mixture of sonic palettes from respected titles like CLASH, Hypebeast, Complex, Mixtape Madness and SoulBounce.
Juls’ efforts have resulted in a MOBO-Award nomination for ‘Best African Act’ and win for ‘Producer Of The Year’ at both the Ghana Music Awards UK and AFRIMA Awards in 2017.
